Techniques - Constructing garden stands
The edging of flower bed
Edging with shrubs

Here you can more clearly see the rows of pressure treated logs that retain the soil from the garden beds.

It was decided to make the upright stands for the trees from 8” diameter, pressure treated “spun” larch poles, and to construct tops which would be bolted down onto these poles.  The poles were also treated with a dark coloured Cuprinol (solvent based) preservative
The next task was to then to find an arrangement and height of poles that looked “right”, and that would display the trees of different heights to best effect.  This took some time to get right !

The brick wall and fence backdrop would be visually distracting, so it was decided to disguise this with commercially available 1” diameter bamboo poles supplied in rolls.  It was capped and edged with 2” dia bamboo cut to size and profile.
