Techniques - Grafting roots
The Akadama is added to the pot
The medis is pressed in with chopsticks
The tree is repotted using sieved and graded 100% Akadama.  The soiled is gently teased around the roots with the use of a chopstick to ensure that there are no voids.

The wire is tightened around the roots
Plastic tubing is used to protect the roots

The tree is then secured into the pot using the 2mm dia. wires, and any surface roots protected from the wire with small plastic tubing.  Securing the tree firmly in the pots is essential when repotting any Bonsai.

Here’s the finished article (Spring 2006).  The graft will be allowed to grow unchecked for the rest of the season to fuse with the trunk.

Check here for results and progress with this graft.
