White beech refinement
Defoliation of the white beech is not recommended, and our members do not do this with their trees.

A method that is common practise in Japan is to cut the leaves as shown above. This reduces the size of the leaves and allows more light in to the branches and so new buds can be formed. The leaves remain on the tree all winter so you can also see the trunk more easily.

Feeding. A liquid feed should be given about two weeks after the new leaves appear. This can be followed by another liquid feed, and then during the summer we used pelleted food such as BioGold. Rape seed pellets can also be used.
