Case history

The owner started to style the tree from a one year old collected seedling.  It started as an up right design but as the tree developed the branches on one side were very weak and started to die off.  The branches on the other side were very strong.  The tree was grown in normal compost and shaping as a cascade started in early 2004.  The tree was further shaped and grown on in 2005.

The tree from the front and back in early February 2006 just prior to potting into a bonsai semi cascade pot.  The original plastic pot was cut to allow for the semi cascade style.  The tree was fully wired and reshaped prior to potting.

NOTE. It is very important that larch are repotted early in the year before any green shoots are showing.  If there is the slightest sign of green repotting should be avoided.

During the growing season, the tree has been fertilised with Biogold fertiliser, and buds were pinched back to encourage better ramification.  This tree is still in the very early stages of it’s development.
