Some shoots have been allowed to extend and grow unchecked on some of the lower foliage pads with the aim of eventually extending those pads.

Below you can see the tree, after leaf fall later the same year.  It was decided that the angle the tree was planted would be changed at the next repotting.  
The close up photo of the lower left hand foliage pad shows how the shoots have been allowed to grow out.  They have been wired to introduce some shape, but these shoots will eventually be cut back to the new profile.
