| The following photographs chart the styling of the tree over the next five months. Due to the amount of wiring and foliage placement work needing to be done and constraints on time to do the work, as well as the time required on maintenance work on the other trees in the collection I decided to spread the work and not rush it. |

The first task was to clear out the old third year needles and prune some of the new shoots, removing excess shoots to leave pairs of shoots. Work then started on wiring the bottom right hand branch. The main branch was too thick to change position by wiring, however the secondary and tertiary branches could be wired and their position adjusted, to open up the branch structure to allow more light to get to the shoots. This initial wiring was aimed at the main branches supporting the foliage shoots rather than the follow up fine wiring required to position each of the foliage needle clusters.
Initially the “thicker” wire used on these thicker branches was anodised aluminium ranging between 2mm and 1.5mm diameter. Later on only annealed copper wire was used as it is far stronger than the equivalent thickness of aluminium wire, therefore you can use much finer copper wire and still get the strength to retain the shape and position of the branch that has been wired. |

The tree was taken to our Artistic Bonsai Circle group meeting in July 2006 and work continued on the bottom right hand branch. |
