This Japanese white pine was purchased in January 2006 whilst the members of the Artistic Bonsai Circle group were on a visit to a bonsai nursery in the South East of England.
The tree had only just arrived in the country, having originated from a nursery in Saitama Prefecture (Japan is divided into 47 Prefectures), Tokyo’s neighbour to the north. |

The tree has good foliage and branch placement radiating fairly evenly around the whole tree. The needles are also fairly compact and short, being generally no more than 25mm.
Unfortunately the tree had to stay at the nursery until later in the year as it was still in quarantine. |

| I took possession of the tree after its quarantine period, in the second week of June 2006 and took some photos of the tree, now five months on from when I last saw the tree in the nursery. The new light green shoots could clearly be seen all over the tree. The tree which is grafted, as most white pines tend to be, has a very good graft junction and nebari with a mass of surface roots which can hopefully be tidied up when the tree is re-potted next year. |
