Over the next couple of months the tree continued to produce more leaves, the larger of which were pinched back as required. |

In mid July the tree was taken to our Artistic Bonsai Circle group meeting again and during the day more selective leaf thinning out was done, together with fine wiring quite a few of the shoots to position them to start building up the foliage pad shapes. |

A close-up of the photograph above. |
| The shoots to each primary branch are wired and placed to provide layered foliage pad outlines. These pads are contoured by selective pruning of the vigorous leaves, so that the individual layers are clearly defined.
The foliage pads do not want to be completely flat in profile, you need to build up the centre shoots so that the pad shape is slightly raised in the middle. |

This is a view of the back of the tree showing how the roots have followed the contours of the rock.
Also more evident from this angle of view is the way the trunk apex line gently curves away from us towards the front of the tree and the viewer, giving a more “welcoming” image.
During the growing season the tree was fed with Japanese rape seed pellet fertilizer having an N.P.K of 5.5.2.
