The remainder of the year 2002 saw continuing maintenance work on the tree which comprised of pruning the new foliage shoots and wiring them into position, together with de-wiring a few months later when the branches had set into position.
In March 2003 the tree was re-potted into a new ceramic bonsai pot which had been specifically made for the tree by Dan Barton.
The tree had good root development and several of the thicker larger roots were pruned back. |
After some trimming of the existing root ball the tree was set into it's new ceramic pot on a layer of free draining compost and tied into position with aluminium wire threaded through purpose made holes in the base of the pot. The remainder of the pot was then filled with compost making sure it was well teased into the root ball, so there were not voids within the compost or root ball. |

During the re-potting process there was a long ugly surface root which extended out from the right hand side of the base of the tree which was cut back to leave a much shorter stub root.
It was decided to reduce the visual weight of the stub by carving it so it linked in with the deadwood elements on the main trunk above. |
The carving work continues using a Makita die grinder with specialist cutting tool attached. |
