In May 2004 all the major wiring to the primary branches was removed, as the branches had set in the desired position.
Old pruned branch stubs were also cut back and some foliage pinching was carried out.
The tree had been submitted for consideration to be exhibited at the Bonsai UK Exhibition in Bath and accepted, so nearer to the show date in June the tree had a spruce up so it would look its best at the show. |

The tree on display at the Bonsai UK Exhibition at Bath in June 2004.
The tree had been prepared by cleaning the trunk/branches and pot. The foliage pads were tidied up as necessary. Both the trunk and the pot were also lightly oiled with Camelia oil.
A fine compost top dressing comprising of fine Akadama and Fuji grit was added to the pot |

In September 2004 the tree was taken to our ABC group meeting when we again had Lee Verhorevoort with us as a consultant for the day.
During the day we carried out some scissor pruning, “cutting in” to the foliage pads to produce more contoured profiles, particularly around the crown of the tree.
Due to the growth in foliage the tree had put on this shaping process was able to be carried out, as there is now more material to work with.
We also had to make some adjustments to the position of some of the branches, this was achieved by re-wiring some and using guy wires to secure others in position. |
