The root ball being hosed down
Close up of root ball being hosed down
As part of the root work the root ball was given a good wash out using a hose. This also helps to loosen the old compost.

So it becomes a process of teasing out the roots/compost with the root hook or chopstick, followed by a wash out then more teasing out.

This procedure also allows you to reposition roots to give an even spread and improve the nabari.

The root ball was given a light pruning prior to being set back into its pot.

The tree was re-potted using a compost mix comprising of:
1 part Kiryu
1 part horticultural grit
3 parts Akadama.

The tree had been secured into the pot with tie wires extending up through the pot drainage holes.
Finally the tree was watered in using a Superthrive/water mix.
