View of roots after cutting

29th January 2008.
The photo on the left shows the roots after the soil has been removed, and the one above shows the roots after they have been cut.
The repotting media used was 80% small Akadama and 20% Kuryu.

4th May 2008. These two photos were taken at the same time. The one on the right was taken with the camera lens in line with the centre height of the tree. The photo on the right was taken with the camera held higher and is the type of view of the tree we see when it is on the bench.
The Zelkova is one of the last trees to come into leaf and is long after most other deciduous trees such as maples, chinese elm, etc.
   

7th June 2008.
This photo was taken after the tree had been trimmed.
The growth of the leaves at the back of the tree was poor compared with the front and was possibly caused by wind burn, or more likely the lack of sun to the back of the tree. This will not effect the quality of the tree.
