Case history - 3

March 2007.
In September 2006 a photograph was taken of the lower part of the main branch after it had been trimmed and wired, and this can be seen at the bottom of page 1. This photo shows the same branch and is the area where there is a big gap. It can be seen that there are now many new buds and the tree will be heavily fed to encourage these.
Wiring and opening up this area has allowed the light in and the buds to develop.

This photo shows the bottom of the main branch.

12th May 2008
Unfortunately again this year we have many "flowers" on all of the new shoots and there is no way to tell why this happens.

29th September 2008
All wire was removed from the tree in August as it was just starting to cut into the bark.
The new buds are well advanced and a few have already opened. The tree has been well fed this year.

This photo of the top of the tree was taken at the same time as the one above, and shows the old needles which are turning brown.
The two photos below show a close up of this area and in the photo on the right the old needles were removed using a pair of twezers.
