The roots after washing
View of the roots
20th February 2008. The photo on the right shows the roots just after they have been lifted out of the pot, and the other shows the washed roots ready for repotting.

5th March 2008.
This photo was taken 14 days after the tree was repotted.
The media used was 70% Akadama and 30% Kiryu.

When comparing the photo above and below right it will be seen that there has been very little growth this year. The same can also be said for the other two hawthorn's in the collection, and was also reported by other members.

3rd February 2009.
There has been a lot of snow in South Wales this year, but fortunately there has been very little in the area where this tree is kept.
This photo was taken after the heaviest fall of the year and as can be seen it is not very deep, and had all melted by late afternoon. There was a couple of other light falls but melted very quickly.
Since Christmas we have had some heavy frosts with temperatures as low as -5 degrees C, but again the soil usually thawed out during the day. This tree has been left outside all winter as there is no room inside. The tree is close to the house as can be seen here and was covered with fleece on the worst night.
